Applications must be received in English, Spanish, French, bahasa Indonesia, or Portuguese. The deadline for applications is rolling. Typically, applications receive a response within two-three weeks of submission. If your proposal requires immediate attention to be newsworthy or timely, please note why in your proposed project description, and respond “Yes” to the “quick response” question. All fields are required, except where noted. Each file size should be less than 5MB. You may enter multiple applicants per project.
Please disclose below in the section marked "Proposed Project Details" if you are receiving or have applied for any other funding for this project.
The form is adaptive so it will present the option to add all necessary documents as you move through it (such as references), depending on your answers. For example, if there is more than one applicant, the field to add their information will appear only once you click on the text "Add another journalist".
If applying on behalf of an organization/newsroom: Explain that the application is made on behalf of the organization in the “Project Description” section. Additional information about the project, such as a reporting plan, can be attached in the “Additional Materials” section. Reporters on the team, or people who will have bylines, including the lead reporter and photojournalists, should complete the "General Information" section.
It is acceptable to use AI chat bots to translate an application to a different language, however we expect (human) journalists to write their proposals.
